The Big Move

And so it begins..

As Christians, we hear about the spiritual realm and spiritual warfare. Sometimes I think we give too much credit to Satan and spiritual attacks while other times we forget there even is a battle going on.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:12

We have nothing to fear because we know the end result! The victory is already won!

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

1 John 4:4

I am not naive to think that in this process of following the call of the Lord we would not face adversity in moving. But sometimes we forget until it comes.

We packed up our stuff, moved out of our apartment on August 25th, and planned to stay with my parents for a week and a half. We hired a moving company to move all our stuff and Nick’s parents stuff up to Washington. We had no experience with moving out of state and did not realize how the process works.

Long story short, they take your stuff from your house to a warehouse and unload it, weigh it all, tag it, then reload it into a very large truck with a few other peoples stuff and plan out their route of how they will deliver to multiple houses. They give you a window of 2 weeks that your stuff could arrive. 2 WEEKS?! We were not prepared for this. Thankfully we had a place to stay, but we were itching to know when to head up north and when our stuff would arrive.

There was more delay after delay, but finally we decided it’s time to go and we will figure it out until our stuff arrives. Nick packed up my car and started driving on September 17th. 9 hours of driving one day and 8 hours the next, but he finally made it and was so happy. Zion and I flew up on Monday the 19th and were very excited to explore our new home. We were hopeful that our stuff would arrive in a few days, but sadly we had to live in an empty house for a week.

It was a joyous Sunday morning when the truck arrived! We were thankful and ready to finally get settled. Most of our stuff stayed boxed in the garage and we have only unloaded the essentials since we don’t plan to live here more than a year.

“Life is an adventure or nothing.” - Helen Keller

It’s all about perspective. We can choose to complain about our circumstances, find the bad in everything, or we can have a heavenly perspective and trust that God is at work in our lives even when things don’t go according to plan.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Colossians 3:1-2

So when spiritual warfare comes, whether big, small, tragic, or easy we need to focus on a few things. God is still on the throne, He has overcome the evil one, and we can rejoice in Him.

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Philippians 2:9-11

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray that we would be a light to everyone we meet

  • That we would stand firm against the enemies attacks

  • That we would have a heavenly perspective and look at life as an adventure
